I recently acquired 2 serving spoons marked only "Tiffany & Co". One has a small 'o' stamped on it. They are quite obviously silver but there is no standard mark. Would these be coin? The pattern is a bead and thread edge with an acanthus finial. They are definitely not plate. thanks. IP: Logged |

Your spoons are coin silver and were retailed rather than made by Tiffany & Co. (which did not begin manufacturing its own silver flatware until 1869). The maker is not identifiable. Don't know what the "O" means. The name of the company was changed from Tiffany, Young & Ellis to Tiffany & Co. in 1853. It was probably in the late 1850s that Tiffany required all the silver it sold be of sterling quality. So likely your spoons date from c. 1853-c. 1858. From your description, I cannot identify the flatware pattern. IP: Logged |

Your search would have been futile, as Tiffany didn't publish catalogues in this time frame (catalogues issued 1845 and 1846, and annually or biennially from 1876 to 1920s) and the catalogues never contained illustrations of items for sale anyway. IP: Logged |
