Does anybody know what this is for? It measures about 4" long and 3 3/4" high. The pattern number would seem to indicate that was introduced about 1900. Did Tiffany make one of these for every new year? What is it? IP: Logged |

Given the size, I'd say for holding dip pens in the days before ball points and fountains. IP: Logged |

Coming off New Year's Eve, maybe it is to hold your noisemakers. IP: Logged |

Hi again! If you lay it on it's side it would work as a rest or perhaps for napkins or coasters. Trust me June it would not hold a noisemaker. BTW would not Tiffany archives have a record on items "Tiffany Makers" made by the numbers given, as opposed to things that were sent out to be made? Thank you. Jeresy IP: Logged |

I cannot tell from the photo whether the "knobs" screw off, but could it have been a holder for a daily calendar? IP: Logged |

Doc! Thank you, and thanks for clearing my head, I knew a New Englander would do it! I was asking a N.E. friend of mine last night about this piece & they also suggested some sort of calendar piece. Of course, it's so obvious......maybe I was not seeing the forest from the trees.....hope we are right........or not. A response from Tiffany would be great, to confirm or deny. Jersey IP: Logged |

Just back from another trip.... A daily calendar was the first thing I thought of when I saw this, but I then rejected the idea. The base on this only goes to the rear; if you put a stack of daily pages on the pins it would tip over to the front (as well as obscuring the year). And all of those that I've seen have two pins at the top; this has three asymmetrically placed on each side. So I'm more inclined towards wev's answer of a pen rack.... IP: Logged |
