I purchased a very heavy sterling bowl; I believe it dates from the 1950s as it has a kind of mod look. The bowl is a perfect hammered half-circle on a polished 1/2" foot. The only markings are "sterling" and "GAMC." can anybody tell me about the maker's mark? Thanks, IP: Logged |

Anything special about the "GAMC" mark? Is it stamped in block letters just like that, or is there a different type of lettering? Any additional information would be helpful. I will see what I can do. Brent IP: Logged |

Rainwater lists a Globe Art Manufacturing Company, producing sterling and plated wares from 1915 to 1922 in Newark, NJ. Modern styles can be as early as the late teens/early 20's, so this may be a match. Since Newark is Mr. Dietz' bailiwick, perhaps he would have additional information about this firm. Any info, Ulysses? IP: Logged |

I saw that entry in Rainwater and wondered if that was the maker. I wonder if Globe Art did handmade items, as the bowl in question is almost certainly handmade. Unfortunately, there wasn't a picture of Globe ARt's mark in Rainwater, so I can't be sure. My mark, by the way, is all in block letters. The G is lighter than the AM, and the C is lighter and smaller. The G and C are very slightly separated from the center AM, which are close together. Paul IP: Logged |

In 1916 Globe Art Mfg Co advertised as gold and silver electro-platers and colorers. They also advertised as silversmiths. IP: Logged |
