I have a piece which is best described as a small serving plate with a makers mark that can be described as having a W within a star within a spider web and a number 177 south of the mark. Any help would be great. The piece was just given to me.... thanks ------------------ IP: Logged |

Your piece was made by E.G. Webster and son. In business from the early 1860s until the business was sold to International Silver in 1928. In 1961 the trademark was changed to Webster-Wilcox which continued to 1981 until the business was sold to Onieda silversmiths. Credit to The Encyclopedia of American Silver Manufacturers. Do a search of the General Silver Forum for "E G Webster" (without the quotes)-- you find numerous posts. IP: Logged |

P.S The 177 number is most likely a catalouge number. ------------------ IP: Logged |
