Hello. I have seen in the tiny triangle the weight marks by Gorham: T, E, M, and H. Ihave never before seen two triangles with an S in one and a T in the other. Is this by any chance Birks Chantilly? Can somebody explain the two weight marks? Thanks. IP: Logged |

This is a question that is still outstanding from a previous post - see link to previous post. By the way, the Silver Salon Search feature is great for seeing if a topic has already been covered. I found this previous post by doing a search against the Gorham forum for the word weight. Weight Symbols IP: Logged |

Thank you for telling me about the search feature...new to this forum. I went to that link, but it does not answer the question, only poses more questions. Can anybody answer the question? IP: Logged |

I'd like to suggest an experiment. If Dovin, Richard, Brent and anyone else with a teaspoon could accurately weight (in troy ozs.) a spoon, Then we might be able to extrapolate what the symbols might mean. (the weight of one teaspoon in troy ozs.) X 12 = Troy oz. per 12 teaspoons IP: Logged |

I do not know if there is any relevance to the alphabet, but the letters may have something to do with it: t = 20 Could these refer to dwt (penny weights - all are less than the maximum)... Scott what do you think, am i way off base, your the weights and measures expert (you did write the book ;-) )? IP: Logged |
