Knowing that Scott & June have a notable collection of cheese scoops, I thought I would share this item by Frank Whiting which looks to be a very small cheese scoop. The pattern is PURITAN, introduced around 1894. It appears to be all original, not a conversion from a teaspoon. It came with a number of circa 1900 serving pieces, all with the same A monogram, so I think it is genuine. So, is it a tiny cheese scoop, or something else? It it is a cheese scoop, why so small? Maybe a cheese sampler:-)? Brent IP: Logged |

We have small one like your example in the Mothers pattern. When we first saw it it was a conundrum because it is a Stilton cheese scoop form but was too small to use as a proper cheese scoop. Later we learned these were sold as salt/spice spoons. IP: Logged |

People who seemed to know what they were talking about have told me that this was used with medicines. The salt spice makes sense. IP: Logged |
