I was just curious if anyone know what manufacturer and pattern was produced with the most pieces types (either custom order or advertised in catalog). Anybody care to guess? IP: Logged |

If you are asking about American dye struck pattern sterling silver then I would have to guess its Gorham’s Chantilly. IP: Logged |

Are there any die hard Chantilly collectors out there that would care to guess the exact number of piece types? I would be willing to start digging through literature but I thought it might be kinda fun to get some other opinions first. IP: Logged |

Hi there Carla, I know that Chantilly has always been my best selling pattern, and its introduction does fall into the time period when you simply could not have enough different pieces for the place setting, not to mention servers, so I would think Chantilly would be toward the top. There are several catalogues of Chantilly out there so it would be easy to check. Always happy to help. Marc IP: Logged |

Curiosity has gotten the better of me. I reviewed the Gorham Chantilly 1895 reprint catalog and it had 98 pieces available. The 1914 reprint has 146 pieces. Some variations from the two catalogs include different versions of many of the serving pieces as well as multiple sizes of some piece types (food pushers, cheese scoops). If I were to include these to my total, plus the Fancy work pieces (cigar cutter, Chocolate muddle, etc.) as well as the enameled pieces, my total figure is well over 200. IP: Logged |

Hi, Sorry to be so late in replying to this topic. I collect Chantilly and have managed to create three spreadsheets that sort-of coincide with the three main production periods of Chantilly. According to what I have been able to learn from various catalogues, other dealers, advertisments and articles, the total main production pieces are: These lists include the different options like gold wash and the different weights (trade, regular, extra and massive) but not the more unusual custom options like the enameling and delft enameling. I also did not include the custom pieces (cigar cutter etc) or the recent sterling handle/stainless implement production pieces (punch ladles, pasta servers etc.) I would be more than happy to share the lists and would also love to know if there are any pieces I may have missed. Robert: I am curious, do you count the pieces made by Shreve as part of the Gorham Chantilly? [This message has been edited by carlaz (edited 07-16-2008).] IP: Logged |

Hi, No I have only included those made by Gorham. I didn't count Shreve, Birks or anyone who makes up "new" pieces. Robert IP: Logged |
