I may have popped this in here in the now gone Tiffany forum: one of a pair of "moderne" style candelabra I bought for The Newark Museum back in the 1980s...quite wonderful, but sort of America's "too little too late" effort to embrace modern design before World War II. Jewel Stern's book dealt with a lot of this, as did Charles Venable's book before hers... This was a unique pair, with a matching centerpiece now in the Metropolitan Museum. The candelabra sold (or didn't sell) in 1939 for $1200.

Beautiful! Not my area, obviously, but I love it--looks Danish or Norwegian to me. What is the relationship between modern and more traditional Scandinavian design? IP: Logged |
