The Kirk Repoussé fork and spoon above are marked Kirk and Son Sterling and the knife is marked "Kirk Stainless Steel Sterling Handle" on the blade. All three are marked “SAMPLE”. The knife and fork are slightly shortly than other ones in this pattern, while the spoon is the same length as other Kirk spoons in this pattern. Why would Kirk produce samples? IP: Logged |

I believe you have a set of samples from a jeweler or department store. These would be for display, or even to loan out to prospective buyers to help pick a matching china pattern. The SAMPLE mark would perhaps dissuade someone from stealing them, or would ensure that the samples weren't sold. Brent IP: Logged |

Thanks Brent, I guess somewhere along the line these were sold by the jeweler or department store. Since they are slightly smaller than the regular pattern I thought they would make a nice youth set. IP: Logged |
