Hello All, As some of you may know, I have an interest in rare and unusual pieces of Tiffany flatware, in particular variations on ANTIQUE (Engraved, Etched, Applied, etc.). Though not an ANTIQUE variant, here is recent surprise find. It seems to be a cream soup spoon, 6 5/8" long with a gold washed bowl. The handle is of an unusual shape, and it is decorated front and back with etching. The mark is odd, but appears to be genuine, with a large "M" above, "TIFFANY & CO. STERLING" and a number "784". Another odd thing is that it is quite light, and not nearly as heavy as one normally expects from Tiffany. I expect that this was part of a child's set, or possibly a one-off custom piece for a lucky individual. Most of the odd variant pieces I have found are in the form of a teaspoon or child's spoon; it is certainly odd to find a soup spoon. Anyway, enjoy. It is always fun to find something new and unexpected. Brent IP: Logged |
