Thank you for posting that, Scott. So interesting! Don't you wish you could have seen the house in person, especially when Mr. Shiebler's time, with the mosaic hallway and the yellow parlor? I lived in Park Slope for ten years, but not long enough ago. IP: Logged |

Thank you Scott. Curious why there is no basement. The mosaic floor must have been fun in the winter. Did Schiebler himself design the house, as well as build it? IP: Logged |

A shame so many of these fine old homes were torn down for commercial or financial reasons. I see a corollary here with our present situation, silver included. IP: Logged |

It surely is a shame that so many fine buildings get replaced by structures that are debatably inferior. Looks like Brooklyn is getting hit by another huge wave of developer greed. Eminent domain has been successfully argued for the development of the 22 acre Atlantic Yard project. Call me silly, but I just don't see how a new basketball arena is a public use project that justifies taking away private property from their owners. IP: Logged |

I love that it was Colonial. Just goes to show that the idea of Colonial was originally very different than what it became by the 1910s. IP: Logged |
