[26-1004] Please help. I bought this quiat salt cellar and I am not sure of the hallmark. The 925 denotes sterling but I have never come across the other hallmark. It's either a reverse C over a W, or a M over a C. all within an eight pointed star. Perhaps the c is a worn D or O. Can anyone give me an idea of age. Thanks in advance. IP: Logged |

My elderly Rainwater lists only the 8-pointed star without initials as the mark of Howard & Cockshaw, in business in New York City in the early 1900s; Herbert Cockshaw successor in 1915. Something to look into anyway.... IP: Logged |

It looks possible that this mark is hand engraved rather than stamped? If so it limits the ability of finding it as one might asume that the maker was a very small producer (student?). An image of the whole peice would help to get closer to its origins... IP: Logged |
