I recently bought a bowl by Wallace Sterling in the Spanish Lace pattern. All that I have found in this holloware pattern is sterling so far. It has a Wallace Sterling sticker on back but no actual stamp to show it is sterling. I don't think the laws related to marking specify only stamping and engraving but does anyone know if it was general practice for major companies to merely indicate their sterling wares with only a pressure sensitive sticker? By the way it has a specific gravity of 9.9 which is a little low but it also has a rolled lip which may also be trapping air in my test.

I actually had a similar situation happen with a piece of Wallace sterling hollowware. It was in the Grand Baroque pattern and it was a round fruit bowl/vegetable. It came directly from the manufacturer and it was not marked sterling. Unfortunately, we did not notice it until we sold it (isn't that always the case). When we contacted Wallace, the said that these things can happen and apologized for the error. Unfortunately, we still own the 'friday afternoon' bowl without the sterling mark. I guess that is one of the flaws of modern day production.
