This is a hand-made 1960s(?) coffee set, it is only marked with a maker's mark, has anybody ever seen this mark. I hope to post pictures of the set, and the mark. IP: Logged |

I showed this set to one of he silversmiths in the SSC - it has an interesting construction, as the used tubes are seamless and made from large brass tubing, as are the extensions for the handles. The conclusion is maybe that this was made by one of he hobbyists of the 1960s, clever but not quite trained as a silversmith. Since nobody I have asked has seen this mark, this might be a reasonable answer. IP: Logged |

Is the set sterling or silver plate? The reference to 'brass tubes' is somewhat confusing. Hand made silver plate is fairly rare but has a typical genesis: it began life as a brass/ copper/ pewter/ tin item and at some later date was plated. IP: Logged |

Thanks DB for clearing that up. Great looking set. From what I recall of the 60's, this style was called something like Brazila. It was based on new design connected with the construction of Brazil's new capital. There were shops that catered to the style, with a lot of imports which were fairly rare back then. My guess is the maker is a brass company or brass craftsman. That is a subject about which I know nothing. But there undoubtedly is a collector's website with marks. What type of wood is used? Wood grain is very difficult to photograph but wonder about it. That might help narrow down a place of origin. IP: Logged |

Dale, thanks so much for your reply - have no idea what wood, but the handles are also so non-commercial looking and made. If I find out I'll post it. IP: Logged |
