This Stieff mark seems odd to me, could it be a retailer's mark punched at the factory? date appears to be 1918. Seen on a pair of candlesticks in the Baltimore style. Thoughts?

If it's the crowned-S mark you find odd, have seen it several times on older Stieff, believe it's an adaptation of the Baltimore Sterling Silver Co. crowned-B trademark (sorry, just popped in, not at home to check references). ~Cheryl IP: Logged |

great clue! I know I've seen this crowned "S"mark myself, but can't remember where... and not readily apparent in a quick look through the usual resources. Sheridan had a crown and the "s" but not in this configuration. It would be interesting to know more IP: Logged |

The crown S mark was used from the early 1900s until the 1920s when it was discontinued. IP: Logged |
