I have a table knife which has had a loose blade since new. I'd like Towle to repair it but do not know an address to contact them through, either postal (probably UK) or email. Can someone help? Thanks. /s/ John IP: Logged |

The Towle company was bought out Syratec, Inc. back in 1990, and in turn Syratec Inc. was later bought out by Lifetime Sterling, Inc. back in 2006. Lifetime Sterling also owns and manufactures other big name silver brands these days including Wallace, International Silver, Gorham, Kirk Stieff, and Tuttle. You can do a search for Lifetime Sterling and find their website where they have a customer service number. On the other hand, you may want to go to a local silversmith who should be able to repair your knife quickly and professionally. IP: Logged |

The filling is usually soft knife when they are heated. Heat the knife with a lighter until the inner mass is soft. then the knife should sit down again It is not worth repairing can be a simple knife, because you get a silver knife on the flea market was cheaper than a goldsmith charged for the repair. The filling holding the blade in is probably Saureisen plastic cement. I know Towle has used it for decades and we also at ONC have used it since before my arrival here. Heating will not set it down, the cement has to be removed (we often use a drill in the drill press to clean out the old cement) and new cement poured into the handle and the blade set in and held in place for at least a day to solidify. The days of using pitch or lead in handles are long gone. middletom IP: Logged |
