What is unclear to me is whether Bailey, Banks & Bailey manufactured their own sterling holloware, retailed only or both. Also, I find that they have used many different styles for their hallmarks. Does this mean that a certain style was used for a certain number of years & therefore the date of manufacture can be identified? IP: Logged |

As far as anyone has been able to determine, Bailey, Banks & Biddle did not make their own silverware. Bailey & Co. MIGHT have back in the 1850's-60's, but BB&B probably did not. If have seen some pieces of BB&B silver with their mark only, and others with the marks of known manufacturers like Kennard & Jenks of Boston. Attempts have been made to get at the BB&B archives, but to no avail as far as I know. Either they no longer have their old records, or just don't want to share them with the research community for some reason. IP: Logged |
