I have recently inherited some sterling flatware from my great-grandparents. Although the marks are nearly worn away (no doubt from agressive polishing), I believe the set to have been made by the Baltimore Silversmiths Mfg. Co. I would love to get some information about the company & possibly find more pieces to the pattern. Any info. is greatly appreciated. IP: Logged |

Baltimore Silversmiths Manufacturing Co. was founded in 1903 by Frank M. Schofield. Schofield came from a family of silversmiths and is reputed to have cut the dies for the Baltimore Rose pattern for the Stieff Company. The company mark is a lion head in a circle with diamonds on either side. The right diamond has an S inside. The left diamond has either a B or an H inside. The B indicates the Baltimore Silversmiths Manufacturing Co. The company name was changed to Heer-Schofield Co. in about 1905 after which time the H replaced the B. The company name was again changed around 1930 to Schofield Co. and in 1967, the company was bought by the Stieff Company. If you post a photo of one of your pieces, we may be able to tell you the pattern name. IP: Logged |
