[01-1327] I'm thinking of buying a Gorham medallion piece represented as from the 1800's, but there's no date stamped on back. Is this possible? IP: Logged |

Hi Rich. Is it a flatware piece in Gorham's Medallion pattern? If so, buyer beware--Gorham recently reissued several pieces in this pattern. These pieces are generally stamped "GORHAM STERLING", rather than Gorham's tripartite trademark and "PAT. 1864". Plus these newer pieces will usually be too shiny for an 1860s piece of flatware and probably won't have a monogram. Several newer examples of the pattern have been turning up at auction. You may want to visit this earlier topic (Gorham's Millineum series). In addition to the reissues shown there, Gorham has also issued salad sets, macaroni servers, and I think other pieces in the 1864 Medallion pattern. IP: Logged |
