[01-1448] I recently purchased a bowl with the marks shown in attached photo. I know it is Gorham and think that the one pitchfork type symbol indicates a production year of 1897, but wonder if anyone might tell me what the other marks might indicate. Along with 1565M there are some etched marks that look like an "A", a couple of triangles and some other line marks (they are hard to see in the photo). The other mark looks sort of like a pine cone, but maybe it is just an odd ding/dent.

Unfortunately, the meaning of the number followed by the letter M is unclear: "I have recently seen several pieces, including one in glass and a sterling chatelaine, marked with a number followed by the letter 'M.' Although I have no idea of the significance at this time, I can say that the 'M' is not a date mark." IP: Logged |
