I have a sugar bowl that I have been trying to identify for quite a while. It is about 5 in. high and the handles are looped to resemble a loving cup. The top 3/4 in. is scored and fluted (like the edge of a pie). The very top edge is serrated. The inside of the bowl is a golden/brass color. The hallmark on the bottom says-"Sterling, S F CAL" There is also what appears to be the Great Seal of California just below the letters. I am very curious. I obtained this sugar bowl about 25 years ago in a box of "junk" that I bought at an auction in Northern Calif. There was a large dent in it and was very tarnished. I had it cleaned and repaired and promptly put it away. Having just moved to Arizona recently I came across it and my interest was once again renewed. I plan on keeping this item as it looks very attractive next to my other little "treasures". Any help you can give me would be appreciated. Thanks IP: Logged |

You have a piece of California-made sterling silver by Schulz & Fischer of San Francisco. They used the Great Seal as a trademark on their holloware. I'll dig out some additional information for you tomorrow. Brent IP: Logged |
