I've noticed that several pieces of the original 1902 Whiting Lily flatware has this unusual mark other than the lion hallmark, sterling, or the pat. & r.d. 1902 marks. What is it? Is it really a mark? It is definitely part of the original cast, not a blemish or stamp. It looks like a circle around a small square with 3 lines extending from 3 corners of the square. Any help? Thanks. IP: Logged |

Hi w.p., Whiting used a series of date marks between 1905 and 1924. They have a triangular theme through 1916, but I don't find one exactly like your description. Perhaps you can post a picture. Cheryl ;o) IP: Logged |

This is in response to a reply regarding my original question about Whiting Lily Flatware Marks. The orginal Lily flatware primarily has the pat. & r.d. 1902, lion hallmark, & sterling stamped on these pieces. In my original question I described another mark of some kind that is on some of the pieces I've seen. I don;t have a personal web page so I cannot post pictures accoridng to this forum. This mark is definitely part of the cast. It appears to be a circle with a squarish shape inside with 3 little arms that branch off of the 3 of the corners. One reply to my first post stated that it could be a date mark Whiting used from 1905 - 1924. Did Whiting place date marks on their Lily line of faltware? If so, does anybody know what this mark is? None of the date marks previously mentioned look like this mark described above. Thank you. IP: Logged |

Perhaps it is a weight designation. IP: Logged |
