[01-1905] This pierced 8" shallow dish is marked Sterling. A small "drip" saucer is attached. For tea bags? Hallmark, is this a griffin around a "S". ------------------ IP: Logged |

Hi, The trademark is the old Simpson, Hall Miller & Co. trademark, used by International Silver Co. on some of their sterling items. It is supposed to be a plumed knight's helmet over a shield. I'm not sure how they decided what trademark to use on what, but it is definitely an International Silver Co. product. Hard to say exactly what your piece is for. There are a lot of similar dishes out there; I suspect most were simply gift items that didn't see a lot of use:-). If I had to guess, I would say they probably sold it as a bread or roll basket.
