This little bowl (4-3/8" x 2-3/8") has been part of my collection for years and I've never seen one quite like it. Displayed resting on its side, for some reason, it's the piece in my foyer cabinet that my non-antiquey friends proclaim "cool" (why do their eyes glaze over when I try to explain the wonderful features of my other silver?) rolleyes . Melon-shaped w/deep lobes (looks like a halved acorn squash to me), a beaded edge and four small ball feet, it's quite heavy and well-made. Marked with the Towle lion-in-T, there's also what appears to be an Old English "F" under the style number. Anyone run across a mark like that on a Towle piece before, and any feelings on when it might date to?

It is easy to see why it is a favorite of yours.

Thanks! The photos are telling me it's time to polish the silver in that cabinet, fortunately I actually enjoy doing it.

I think enjoying polishing is a prerequisite of collecting silver smile
