Nice article by Scott Braznell in the July/August 2012 issue of The Magazine Antiques about the inspiration for Porter Blanchard's Commonwealth flatware pattern introduced circa 1929 and produced through the 1980's with subtle variations by his shop. The article also gives some nice background on Blanchard's involvement in the creation of the Arts and Crafts Society of Southern California and his influence on the west coast Arts and Crafts scene.
