I have seen on the market a number of unusual spoons with similar characteristics but no identification. As in the spoon pictured, the spoons all have twist handles and elaborately pierced handle terminals, often decorated with very fine bright cutting. Many of the spoons are quite small, and are often engraved in the bowl as souvenir spoons. This spoon may be the key to the mystery. In addition to the STERLING mark, we have a mark the appears to read F.( )ARCY. This may be the mark of Fred I Marcy & Co. of Providence, RI. They were in business from 1878 to 1896, and specialized in fancy buttons. I would imagine that spoons such as these may have been a sideline for the company. Any further ideas, or other pieces with similar characteristics, would be very welcome! Brent IP: Logged |
