I am going to be in North Carolina for a little over a week, mostly driving up the coast. I am looking for suggestions good antiquing; I know that Wilmington and New Bern have some shops, but any other suggestions. I will also be in the Chapel Hill area for a couple of days, so any suggestions there would also be welcome. IP: Logged |

Hi there Doc, I do not know the route you are traveling, but a stop in Portsmouth VA at "Way Back Yonder" is always a pleasure, and there are two shops in Norfolk, on 21st street, if I remember correctly, that have a good deal of silver also. If you are heading through Richmond, there is at least 1 jewelry shop that has silver, on Broad Street, the owners name is Max, but the shop name escapes me. Been there forever. Chapel Hill.. "Whitehall at the Villa". David Lindquist usually has some interesting silver. Raleigh... Check out the Antique Malls. Antiques Show in Richmond Feb 26, 27, 28th. Womans' Club Antiques show in Raleigh March 12, 13, 14. 80 dealers. The lecture is supposed to be on Silver. Don't know how good the speaker is... You may want to make a list of coin shops in the cities you are going through. Several of the ones I visit are now putting "good" silver in their showcases, both flatware and hollow ware. Now that the price of silver has gone down 20%, they are all holding good quantities. And with prices being down, they are not as busy as they have been. If you are traveling down I-85 towards Charlotte, let me know and we can do lunch or dinner, or breakfast, and I can show you around. Hope this helps.. and watch the snow.. Wheeee... Thanks, Marc. I particularly like the suggestion of coin shops; it's something I don't usually think about. We will be coming in and out of Charlotte, but won't be there long-hitting various campuses for college baseball on the weekends and poking up the SC and NC coast during the week. It's supposed to be a recon trip for eventual retirement from the snowy Northeast, but with the weather y'all have been having, we may rethink that plan! IP: Logged |

Doc, The really crappy weather starts at the Virginia line. The weather systems that hit DC for 36" gave us 6" the first pass, and rain the second time through. You will like the Carolina's. back to shopping.............. Happy to provide more assistance.. Ask Scott (Mr. Martin) for my email or phone #. Marc Both of these have goodies galore in the shiny metal department. American coin, British and American sterling, with prices starting at $10. Also, silver from special places like Canada ("eh"), and the wilds of upstate New York, Boston, Chicago, and California. IP: Logged |

Replacements Ltd in Greensboro, NC is a real treat to see. Scott's in Atlanta has dealers from all over the east coast, but that is still a good drive from NC. The Museum of Southern Decorative Arts in Greensboro, NC is also worth a trip. IP: Logged |
