Hello everyone. A friend of mine a big silver collector recently found this petite salver by Tiffany on [snip] of all places and he and I are curious as to its original purpose. It measures only 3 7/8" in diameter and stands a 3 sweet bun feet. It has lovely engraved decoration and an NT monogram in the center. At first we thought maybe that it was a card receiver, but if I remember correctly 19th century cards of introduction were quite fat were they not? Also, could it be a toy piece? Did Tiffany make toy pieces in silver? Was it a salesman's sample? The mark reads "Tiffany & Co, 550 Broadway Quality 925-1000 2309/1292 and 2 Gothic "M"'s on either side. My friend does not have a good camera and could not get a sharp picture of the mark. Thanks!
