[26-1816 13-1227] I recently bought a copy of Carpenter's "Gorham Silver" and in the flatware appendix I noticed the pattern named "Bamboo" c.1882 which I had not seen before. Does anyone know anything about this pattern or does anyone have pieces in this pattern they could share? Thank you. IP: Logged |

I seem to remember there being a serving set illustrated in Venable's book and/or in one of the more famous silver collection auction catalogs like the Rapaport collection. That pattern is exceptionally scarce. I believe it was only made in serving pieces; ones I have seen had kind of stylized oyster shell-like bowls. There is a picture in Venable's book on page 126 of a salad set. It doesn't list it as Bamboo but its pretty obvious that what it is. Robert IP: Logged |

Thank you Paul and Robert for the information. I had assumed that it was a scarce pattern. IP: Logged |

Here's a book that can be found through Google and that might apply here if Charles H Carpenter hasn't already covered the Gorham information in it: Embracing the East, White Women and American Orientialism By Mari Yoshihara. IP: Logged |
