[26-2642] Hi everyone. First, thank you all for the warm welcome. I thought I'd show everyone my latest purchase for my second post. If anyone can tell me anything about the collection, etc it would be much appreciated as I can't find anything in that regard. I bought a set of 11 Gorham Sterling Chargers. Date code is 1929. They measure 11 and 1/8" and weight a little more than 600g each.
We were especially happy that they have a greater diameter than our dinner plates. We wish there were 12 but who knows, maybe there's another out there somewhere. IP: Logged |

Yes, these are sterling made by Gorham with their 1929 year marking of the little zeppelin. I believe Gorham called these sandwich plates and they made them in small, medium and large sizes with yours being the large size. Because it is so large I think your using them for a slightly different purpose as chargers under your plates is a splendid idea so long as the footings on your china fit easily within the central flat area of your sandwich plates. I do not know what pattern these are so I cannot help you with that. If you do find out the name of the pattern you might want to keep an eye out for the other pieces that would likely have gone with it such as small sandwich plates, large serving plates and platters, and perhaps even a large waiter tray. That is really interesting that they came in other sizes. We have 10.5" plates so they seem to fit well. I need to take a pic with a full size plate. When we were scouring the internet for a probable set, most were <10.5." Fortunately our China fits it like a glove so functionally it works well. I would love trays etc and keep checking eBay. Hopefully something pops up eventually. IP: Logged |
