Hi all, its been awhile since I posted anything but I ran across this piece and have no idea of its original use. I think it may be a shaving mug since it has a pierced piece on the side, which may have held soap?? Any ideas or answers would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Very pretty cup. The side compartment must be what held the soap. I think I have seen ones that also held a brush. IP: Logged |

I'm not really sure.... I think the cup was used to create a thick lather. The side compartment was where the brush rested while shaving. [This message has been edited by Scott Martin (edited 06-23-2020).] IP: Logged |

Thanks Scott! Where did you find that page and does it give a year? I was close but I would love to know if the side is for the soap or the brush. Both make sense! IP: Logged |

1906 Gorham catalog. I think the curve on both sides of of the side piece are brush rests. [This message has been edited by Scott Martin (edited 06-23-2020).] IP: Logged |
