My wife collects things related to bees and bee hives and this cup has a nice bee on the bottom. I think it is honey bee rather than the bumble type, but in any event, it was the mark for Adelphi Silver Plate Co. This silver plate company started in 1896 and they were out of business by 1915. From the Rainwater and Redfield book John Schimpf and Sons were the owners so maybe the “Sons” were the brothers referred to in the name Adelphi. I really have not seem many sterling pieces from this company and I think they mostly made silver-plated articles. The few pieces that I have seen have been well-made and designed and reflected the designs of the early 1900s. This cup is a standard beaker design. I have not seen anything about why they went out of business. IP: Logged |

Very nice cup. I mostly recall seeing bowls & bon-bon by them in sterling. This may be my first cup. A few other posts your wife might like: IP: Logged |
