ahwt Posts: 2371 Registered: Mar 2003	posted 01-12-2024 11:58 AM Gorham made these suspender buckles in sterling. The Gorham date marks are 1890 for one and 1891 for the other. They are both inscribed November 29, 1891, so I assume that the retailer had in stock buckles from both years and just pulled two out of their inventor to fill the customer’s order. Does anyone know how the suspender would be threaded through the buckles? IP: Logged

Hausmann and Sons Henry Hausmann worked for a brief time as a silversmith in Adolphe Himmel’s silver manufactory. He took over that business after Himmel’s death in 1877, but a year later, Hausmann also passed away, leaving the business to his wife, Theresa. She ran the silver manufactory, which produced solid silver and silver-plated ware, including patented suspender buckles, and was joined in the business by her sons, Louis and Gabriel, in the early 1890s. T. Hausmann & Sons, which became known simply as Hausmann’s by the 1920s, occupied a beautiful building on Baronne Street. The company took over A. B. Griswold & Co. in 1924, becoming the third successor to Hyde & Goodrich. These buckles most likely were made in accordance with the instructions in the patent acquired by Louis Hausmann and shown in Scott’s post above.
