I am seeking information in regard to the French silversmith Emile Puiforcat who was the father of the better known silversmith, Jean Puiforcat. Also, because father and son used the same mark (the father's mark)it is difficult to make attribution except in the case of those objects which bear the distinct design style of Jean Puiforcat. The objects which are the subject of my search are four salt cellars executed in a neo-classical design style. IP: Logged |

I'm sure not the one to ask about modern French silver. Try Deborah Shinn at the Cooper-Hewitt; or Jane Adlin at the Metropolitan Museum, in their 20th-century design department. However, there is a dealer in French silver in--oddly enough--Paris, with whom I have corresponded now and then. David Allan, 13 bis rue de Grenelle, Paris 75007, France. He might know more of Jean Puiforcat's father's history. Good luck. IP: Logged |
