HELLO!!! I've got me a piece that i need help identifying. The spoon is marked on the back "Rogers Bros. 1847" Then an I & S in squares. I have a few pictures...if you think that you'd be able to help me out somehow...please give me your email address and i can email them to you. ( i tried to load it on my isp and all but it didn't work right.) Just to describe it, it's a skinny spoon and is covered ALL OVER (front and back) with flowers. The spoon is not like a bowl at the end though, it has like a platform on it. IT's in a class "cup" with a silver cover on top of it. The spoon sticks out through a small hole in the cover. The top of the cover has what looks to be a closed flower. THe top is ribbed. This is the best i can describe it. THANK YOU! -TROY IP: Logged |

Sounds like a jam jar to me. This is 1847 Rogers brothers as owned by International Silver (the IS in squares), after 1898. I don't quite see what you mean by the platform on the spoon--but it could be a specialty spoon for honey, jam, something clever those victorians thought up to complicate our lives. What is a "cup?" Does that mean with a handle (like a mug); or cylindrical, like a beaker? I'm guessing the latter--or even with two handles. How big is it? It's ca. 1900 from what you say about the marks, but that's the most I can tell without a picture. IP: Logged |

The use of the IS indicates a date after about 1920. It sounds like the pattern 'Love' aka 'Precious Flower' from 1970 to about 1975. The crystal jar with spoon was a promotional item for both the spoon and the glass maker. This is the only post 1920 1847 pattern I am familiar with that features an all over floral motif. What he said. Plus, it is clearly a jam jar--or at least that's the form most closely related to it. It seems to be reviving some Victorian motifs, but the glass and the overall design of the piece is clearly from my lifetime. IP: Logged |
