My husband was given a Sterling Silver German made 5 piece tea set by his mother. she purchased it after WW II for can of coffee and some cigarettes. there are 2 markings on the base handarbeit and J.V.H any information on this georgous set would be helpfull IP: Logged |

Well, handarbeit means "hand made," and J.V.H. is either a designer or a maker. It is not Josef Hoffman, because his middle initial was not V. You say sterling, meaning there should be some other mark that indicates that. I'll have to through this to the experts on European arts and crafts silver. You might look into the other forums to see if there is one where there might be collectors of this sort of thing. IP: Logged |

There are no other marks on the pieces, but Father in law did have it tested and it is the good german silver, (not plated over brass or something else) it is pure from what I understand. He had it appraised 20 some years ago also. Any help would be appreciated thank you IP: Logged |
