I have a small vase/cup that was my grandmother's and is stamped Barbour Silver Company, SILVER, Quadruple with the number 27 on it. What exactly does quadruple mean and also what does the number 27 mean? Is it a design number or number of these made? Thank you for the information. IP: Logged |

The 27 is the form number, and usually refers to the shape of the piece (not to all of the various details that might or might not be added to it, necessarily). Quadruple plating may not be literally true, but it was a buzz-word in 19th-century electroplated silver that the silver coating was especially heavy (i.e. plated four times) and thus not as subject to wear as single-layer plating.
