This is a Set of what I was told are fruit knives they say sterling on the bands, and have an unknown mark on the blade. The handles are mother of pearl. Can any on help with the mark read M C CO with a 12 underneath links for pictures IP: Logged |

MCCo stands for...(I'm looking in Rainwater, but I know the C is Cutlery)...and my hunch was right...Meriden Cutlery Company. They were in South Meriden CT, and specialized in pearl-handled fruit sets. They were founded in 1855, but this set would probably date from the end of the century, 1890-1905, which looks more like the style of your knives. Now, Rainwater doesn't give this particular mark (saying they used the full name spelled out), but I'd still vote for that one, especially later on in the firm's history, when it became a division of Landers Frary Clark.
