Anyone know of a publisher out there who might be interested in a largely unpublished collection of silver that tells a great story? Art book houses are really hard pressed today, and don't seem interested in silver. Museums have a very hard time self-publishing, because of the costs involved. Thus collections (such as ours) remain unpublished and unknown. IP: Logged |

Why not online? The utility for research is miles better and Google seems to like the consept. . . IP: Logged |

You know, I tried that idea, because (tho' I think it's second best) it's a way to get a book out there (sort of). However, my boss, the director, doesn't think a virtual book is really less trouble than a real one, and until I convince her otherwise, I'm stuck. But I might prod further... IP: Logged |

I am more familiar with academic publishing, but I can recommend a general reference book called "The Writers Market," which covers the whole range of publishers. Most libaries carry it. Good luck, IP: Logged |

Aside from the advantages of use, the ability to update and expand the 'book' at will is a tremendous advantage. I know several references/academic publications that were out of date by the time of publication. IP: Logged |

On the other hand, I just love books... There's just nothing else quite like a hardbound, immaculately preserved tome standing proud upon your shelf, as much an expression of self as a reference, proclaiming to all of your guests how diverse and fascinating all of your passions are... But these are just idle thoughts... [This message has been edited by IJP (edited 06-16-2005).] See: "on the other hand, I just love books" IP: Logged |

Greetings! Have you considered offering it to Schiffer Publishing Company? Jersey IP: Logged |

I was just thinking about Schiffer the other day. I give them great credit for publishing books for people who have useful information to share. I have used many Schiffer books in my career. They used to be pretty ugly books, but have gotten much better (their fairly recent book for Janet Drucker on Jensen silver is one of their nicest, but still the homely logo on the cover). Ironically, museums are fussy, even if they're too poor to publish. I appreciate all this feedback. IP: Logged |

Curator Dietz, I have had the pleasure of talking to people at Shiffer several times and they are very open to peoples views etc. I think they would let you do pretty much what you want them to do. I know I have a friend who they want very much to do/finish a book and have asked me to help get them going. Certainly worth a try. What do you have to loose? Jersey IP: Logged |
