I'm afraid I missed the silver boat at the recent Americana auctions. Here is a pair of vases that sold for $25,000 at Sotheby's. I note the price because, while out of range for normal people, this was a good deal from a museum perspective, and these are remarkable, early, sophisticated Tiffany japanism. Both with French import marks, suggesting either display in the Paris World's Fair of 1878, or sale in Tiffany's Paris store. Some of the best early japanism I've ever seen. IP: Logged |

What happened to Tiffany? Now it's all about the "blue" box not what is in it... These are not just about design - the techniques must represent a huge amount of experimentation and combined skills of many great smiths. IP: Logged |
