Good news and bad news. While I don't get to create a Silver Gallery per se, I am going to be able to do what I hope is useful and provocative, using silver. The gallery in the Ballantine House, that has now been closed for over a year, will become a Hidden Treasures gallery. Essentially a very tidy storage area, it will line up lots of furniture in layers (so you won't really get a good view of things) so as to remind people that we have great things that we can't show because we don't have space. In front of all of this will be five cases of silver, focusing on (1) recent significant gifts and (2) important objects that haven't been out for a long time. Like this baby, executed by Robert Bain and F. O. Erichsen for Gorham in 1905: IP: Logged |

Yum Yum. And this beauty will be viewable when? I'm sure the snow will melt someday. Your Museum is just a short flight from here. Thanks for the preview. Marc IP: Logged |

Bad news on the silver gallery front. Drastic budget cuts imposed by the city have, once more, stalled plans for a new gallery installation that would have featured a group of great pieces from our silver collection, including recent gifts made during our centennial year (2009). IP: Logged |
