In the "A Curator's Viewpoint" Forum,Publishing possibilities, IJP was responding to a discussion of the relative virtues of online and physical books: quote: Me too! I can get thoroughly mesmerized in a bookstore and spend hours just looking. It occurs to me that the reason I like lovely, physical, dimensional, hands-on books is the same reason that I like beautiful, aesthetically pleasing, substantial, hand-crafted silver: both books and silver are concrete, tangible, three-dimensional objects for which the actual manifestation is equally as important as (and in the case of silver perhaps even more important than) the intellectual content of the object. Can't say that about an online publication, and I can't think of an equivalent in silver to online! IP: Logged |

There is something about the smell of a book store. I have some very old books and sometimes I just like to flip through the pages looking at the etchings. As with silver the old stuff was wonderful and carefully made. IP: Logged |

ah books and reading. Yes, I agree they are wonderful. I have more reason than some to appreciate reading. As a child I was unable to attend school from age 5 to 12. Reading was my compainion and educator. Due to books I was able to graduate at 18. Silver too is lovely, but give me a choice of all the silver in the world and all the books, books would win. Welcome to the forum, you will be a great addition. IP: Logged |
