Author | Topic: Letter rack from a yacht. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This large rococo letter rack (10 1/4 inches wide, and its matching blotter) bears an engraved insignium of cross pennants - that I happened to recognize as yacht emblems. As it happens, one is the yacht blue, the other the yacht itself. I tried to imagine what sort of a yacht would need a large, Louis XV style letter rack and blotter - and figured it was probably in the main saloon. Seems to be the Eastern Yacht Club in Marblehead, MA; or possibly the Newport Yacht Club (same design, different colors, which can't be determined from the engraving). The yacht itself seems to have been named the Shamrock. ![]() ![]() My attribution of the design of this (dated to 1901-02) is to Paulding Farnham, for Tiffany & Co. The scrolls are identical to the treatment on the "George III" silver Tiffany did for the Paris fair in 1900 that appears elsewhere in my forum. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In that period the America's Cup was raced on 30 meter boats and there were 5 "Shamrock's" from 1899-1930 defending so there was plenty of money and plenty of room for this lovely little necessity! IP: Logged |
