Someday when my ship comes in, I'd like to have a fabulous silver Hanukkah menorah. But in the meantime, I made one out of Grandma Rosie's teacups ("Gold Rose," by Minton), with tea light candles in them. Here it is on the mantelpiece over the Christmas tree (we're a culturally diverse household), flanked by my Gorham teapot and its matching cream and sugar set:
It's even better lit; I'll post more photos as the holiday happens. (Also, I need to hang spoons on the tree.) IP: Logged |

What a terribly clever and inventive idea. I would never have thought of it! You honor your grandmother and your heritage beautifully! Happy Holidays Polly. Brian IP: Logged |

Thank you! I was disgustingly pleased with myself when I came up with this idea last year. I went skipping around the apartment yelling "I'm a genius! I'm a genius!" until I stubbed my toe (which served me right). I expected teacup menorahs to be all over the Internet by now (I posted mine on Facebook last year), but evidently I'm not quite the trendsetter I imagined...though it did inspire my friend Chelsea to make one from HER grandmother's teacups, so there's hope yet... Great idea Polly. I think use of family objects often has more meaning than new objects. Nothing can replace a memory. Also exposure on this site will bring your idea to a larger audience. IP: Logged |
