if all goes well I will add a photo of the mark on an arts and crafts bowl I own. The letters F.J.R. with a large script G over the J. form the makers mark. The bowl is of very good weigth and nicely done. Any ideas? Thanks IP: Logged |

This is the mark of Frederick J.R. Gyllenberg. He worked at the Handicraft Shop in Boston, along with Mary Knight, George Gebelein and Karl Leinonen, in the 1900's. I believe he stated using this mark after he left the Handicraft Shop, but before he entered into partership with Alfred Swanson in 1926. That fits in well with the date on your bowl, 1917. Gyllenberg and Swanson went out of business after the Depression. Gyllenberg is rather unknown outside of A&C circles, but as you can tell he was an accomplished silversmith. IP: Logged |

Brent: Thanks for the info. I actually managed to find info on him in the latest Rainwater, which has really been nicely updated. IP: Logged |
