I saw a pair of sterling tongs this weekend with the marks: Herman Roth Larchmont, NY Handmade Sterling. They were plain tongs but of good weight and balance. I know there are/were a fair number of private silversmiths that took up the craft in the 1960's and 1970's to fill the retirement void. Has anyone heard of Herman Roth? Is he a contemporary of Henry Petzal? IP: Logged |

Herman Roth was active in 1953, selling a "miniature shuttle lapel pin for gals who follow the weaver's trade. Handmade in sterling silver including bobbin would with thread, at $15." This from a small item in Craft Horizons, Nov/Dec 1953, p. 9. with a small b/w photo Callie in Toronto IP: Logged |
