Hello; I'm visiting your website in the hopes of identifing the silver marks on this piece I have, made in the late 1920s or 30s. BB & Co. Could someone tell who this manufacture is? Where there from? etc. Thank you IP: Logged |

Without a picture of the mark the chances of an accurate answer drop quickly, but at a guess, I would say it is Barden, Blake & Company of Plainville MA. IP: Logged |

The mark looks very much like the way it's printed here, except that the "o" in "Co" is superscripted (hanging from the imaginary line off the capital "C") with a small line underneath it. Is the company, Barden, Blake & Company still in business? Is their a website? Or Are there any other examples oftheir work for me to see? I would like to learn more about this company. (I don't think my last response made in, so I typed it again here) IP: Logged |

Dear WEV: Could you tell me the name of the book you used to identify my hallmark? With that, I could look up the details of the manufacturer myself. Thank you for your assistance. IP: Logged |

Probably the most convenient and thorough reference that you might use would be Encyclopedia of American Silver Manufacturers by Dorothy T. Rainwater. There is an entry for Barden, Blake & Co. of Plainville, Massachusetts on page 18 of the Third Edition Revised. That reference directs you to another entry which is for Chapman & Barden. ------------------ IP: Logged |

WGS, That's great! Thanks WGS. I tried looking up Chapman & Barden, but I couldn't find any dates of operation for that company. My Rainwater edition didn't have any company details or when they absorbed/took over BB&Co. IP: Logged |

From Attleboro business directories, Joseph G Barden, Edmund M Blake and John T Joyce were jewelry manufacturers there from approximately 1889 to 1897. IP: Logged |
