Usually, when one's mother request assistance cleaning out closets, it promises nothing better than a sweaty brow, billowing dust, and weak beer. In my experience, at any rate. Today's good deed was rather more pleasant, however. Among the other odd bits and broken lamps, we came across a small cardboard box. Inside were the illustrated cuff links with a note: "Given to me by A. E. my 16th birthday." The note was written by my father and, as noted in several other posts, the silversmith Asta Eicher of Park Ridge was my father's god mother. Given the note, the links date to 1930 and the design would no doubt have seemed a bit old-fashioned by then. They are marked "sterling" on one and , very small, engraved AE in script on the other. Christmas came early this year. IP: Logged |

Is Asta Eicher, also known as Anna? She died in 1933? Or is Asta someone else? IP: Logged |

Yes, they are the same lady -- her legal name was Asta Buick Eicher, but was called Anna familiarly, at least in my family. She was murdered in 1933 in Clarkesville, West Virginia. IP: Logged |
