benbow or ben bow silver from ca. 1948 in arizona? hallmark is a bell surrounded by an oval with horizontal lines in the field. Stamped 'handmade' below. any information on who this is or how to find more about this maker? I have quite a few pieces of thisfrom my family and would like to find more and also more about it. Hi, Sorry it took me so long to respond; The name seemed familiar, but I couldn't place it until now. According to "Silver in the Golden State", a William Benbow & Co. were operating as silversmiths in Los Angeles from 1932 to sometime after 1940. No other infromation is given, but they are listed as silversmiths, not just jewelers who may have sold silver made by others. Their work may well have been sold in Arizona, whcih isn't far from LA. I will let you know if I come up with any more information. I would love to see a picture of the mark, if you can get a digital image of it. Brent IP: Logged |
