Hello All. Anyone familiar with this maker? The cup is very well made and has good weight. The bottom has an engraved presentation date of 1966 just above the stamped maker's mark. I once heard of a 20th century smith (can't recall his name) working in Bowling Green, Kentucky who specialized in julep cups, thought this might be him. Thanks, tag

You were close. Mr. Trees was a Lexington, Ky. jeweler. I don't believe he actually made his juleps, however, though he retailed them for many years in Lex. Some have only his psuedo-hallmark of a tree, while others also have his name. Many such cups were awarded at horse shows and fairs throughout the Bluegrass around mid-20th cen. I don't recall when he died. IP: Logged |
